The official site for Major League Baseball, MLB.com offers users an all-star Web experience.
IN A NUTSHELL
Granted, it’s preaching (largely) to the converted, but most folks who go to MLB.com will discover a holy shrine to the information-rich sport of baseball. News, merchandise, video, stats, feature stories, and much more can all be found—and found easily—on the site.
BRAVO
The site does a masterful job of cramming all things baseball into one site. It’s truly everything a baseball fan could want—and a little more. It also does something few sites manage to do: skillfully mixes static (news, features, and so on) and dynamic (video, podcasts) information. Especially nice is the entire tab devoted to mobile content.
Clear information hierarchy and modular design make it easy to find what you need. Effective touches such as using different colors to signal different actions (red=buy something, blue=news and information, black=corporate/official material) also help users intuitively navigate the site.
Sure to help settle bets: The interactive League Leaders module lets users see who’s ahead in the stats and lets them look up past front-runners.
TRY AGAIN
If you’re not a baseball fan, the site looks a little daunting at first glance. And sometimes unexpected things happen: Clicking on team initials in the left-hand Schedule section automatically launches that team’s site. Elsewhere, this functionality is previewed by alt tags.
