We're not becoming visual beings. We've always been, and are fundamentally, visual beings. The Lascaux cave drawings are evidence of our visual literacy's fundamental place in our way of communicating.

Life Magazine's success prior to t.v. is evidence of the power of the arrested image, a photograph.

The National Adult Literacy Study reveals the degrees to which such a large proportion of Americans are only partially literate. This study looks at document literacy, numeric literacy, and written-word literacy. This work should be among the first five books that must be read by anyone who makes a living as a communicator, publisher or marketer.
