Job Posting – Managing Editor–Tech Focus

Tendo Communications, a San Francisco-based marketing services agency specializing in customer communication and custom publishing programs, seeks a managing editor with experience in enterprise technology. This is a full- or part-time, contract position with the opportunity to become a permanent position.

The managing editor is a combination of account manager, consultant, writer, and editor. We're looking for someone who can deliver great customer service and manage the editorial process. Responsibilities include content project planning and management: developing content types, creating editorial calendars, and recruiting writers, assigning stories, editing manuscripts, managing the client review and copyedit processes, and coordinating with the design and production departments.

You should have a passion for technology; an editorial education and/or background; an understanding of social media and how businesses can leverage it; the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously; and a professional, problem-solving attitude.

Responsibilities include:

  • Work closely with client to develop compelling content that integrates client objectives
  • Assign, write, and edit articles, promotional copy, website copy, and other content media as required
  • Support development of informational graphics and other rich media (video, audio, Flash illustration) components
  • Manage the client routing, revision, and approval process
  • Manage internal copyedit and proofing process while maintaining the highest standards for accuracy and overall content quality
  • Proactively communicate with clients as required; anticipate challenges and suggest solutions

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years of editorial experience; Web editorial background required
  • Experience/background/understanding of and enthusiasm for tech-specific markets, products, and topics
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including clear client communication, sharp editorial instincts, and copyediting proficiency
  • Terrific client relations skills; the successful candidate will understand how to navigate diplomatically in complex environments, build consensus through influence rather than authority, and deliver great customer service
  • Proven ability to follow and shape stories at various stages of development; keen judgment of unique angles and newsworthiness of editorial
  • Project management skills; ability to meet deadlines and balance multiple project schedules
  • Independent work style, ability to plan and execute with little direction, and the ability to take initiative is a must
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; advanced skills in Word and PowerPoint required
  • Comfortable collaborating with others, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and enjoy a diversity of tasks and projects
